DNI and NIE photo requirements
Spanish DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad) and NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) applications require photos that meet specific format standards:
- Dimensions: 32×26mm (or the digital equivalent)
- Pixels: typically 400×480px or similar
- Format: JPG
- File size: 10KB-100KB, usually under 50KB
- Background: plain white or light
The digital photo requirements depend on whether you are applying in person (physical photo) or online (digital upload). For online submissions via the sede electrónica, the file size is usually the main constraint.
Common targets
- 20KB — for older portals with strict limits
- 50KB — the most common requirement
- 100KB — accepted by newer systems
If the portal does not specify, 50KB is a safe target for any Spanish government form.
