LinkedIn image sizes
LinkedIn has specific recommended dimensions for each type of image:
- Profile photo: 400×400px minimum, 768×768px recommended
- Cover image: 1584×396px
- Post images: 1200×627px for landscape, 1200×1200px for square
- Article header: 1200×644px
The platform accepts larger images and downsizes them, but it re-encodes on upload. Starting with an image that is already the right dimensions and reasonably compressed gives you better control over the final result.
Why compression matters on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a professional network. Photos that look sharp, clean and well-prepared signal attention to detail. Photos that are visibly compressed — blocky, soft or pixelated — send the opposite signal.
At the same time, LinkedIn does not need full-resolution images. Uploading a 4000×3000 photo for a 400×400 profile picture wastes bandwidth and gives LinkedIn no benefit. Uploading an image that is the right size and cleanly compressed produces the best final result.
Recommended targets
- Profile photo: 500KB, 768px on the long edge, JPG
- Cover image: 500KB, 1584px wide, JPG
- Post images: 300-500KB, 1200px wide, JPG
- Article header: 500KB, 1200px wide, JPG
JPG is the safest format for LinkedIn. WebP support is not universal, and PNG is unnecessarily large for photographs.
